It Took RESCENE Two Years to Hit No. 1. This Time It Took Two Hours.

RESCENE’s new song “With” came out at 6 p.m. on November 3, and exactly two hours later, at 8 p.m., it hit No. 1 on the TOP100 chart of Melon, Korea’s biggest music platform (MHN, Newsis, November 3). “LOVE ATTACK,” released in August 2024, held on for 23 months before it reached that spot this July. The new song got there in 120 minutes. The group known for its “chart reversal miracle” topped the chart on release day for the first time.

Honestly, as a fan, this No. 1 makes me so happy. It means RESCENE is no longer the group whose old song got discovered late. It’s a group whose new songs go straight to No. 1. Newsis put it in the headline: “RESCENE, straight to the top this time.”

8 p.m., the top in 120 minutes

“With” is the title track of PULSE, the fourth mini album from RESCENE (Woni, Liv, Minami, May and Zena). Two hours after release it reached the top of Melon’s TOP100, passing A2O LITE’s “NEON,” which had held the spot for a long time (MHN, November 3). The title track wasn’t alone. At 9 p.m., B-sides “Finest Thing” were at No. 5, “Inside Out” at No. 6 and “MEME” at No. 10, with “LOVE ATTACK” at No. 4, so half the top 10 were RESCENE songs (MHN).

By midnight the line was even longer. On the 12 a.m. TOP100 on November 4, “With” was No. 1, “Inside Out” No. 2, “Finest Thing” No. 4, “MEME” No. 6 and “Dragon” No. 7: all five songs from the new album in the top 10 (Top Star News, November 4). On Melon’s “Hot 100,” which tracks only new releases, the five songs stood at No. 1 through No. 5 in a row (eToday, November 4). In Korea, an artist filling the top of the chart in a row is called “lining up” the chart, a phrase reserved for the strongest streaming acts.

A song that held on for 23 months, and 4.87 million views in 11 hours

What makes these two hours so moving is the two years before them. RESCENE debuted in March 2024, and “LOVE ATTACK” was the title track of their first mini album, SCENEDROME, that August. It reached No. 1 on Melon in July 2026, 23 months after release, and then took the monthly No. 1 in August (New Daily, NewsQ). Those 23 months were five people refusing to let go of the stage.

The YouTube numbers show it. The “With” music video passed 4.87 million views in about 11 hours (RESCENE official channel, checked 4 a.m. KST on November 4). That’s close to half of the 11.41 million views the “Pinball” video has gathered in two years, and five times the 960,000 that “New World,” from the same period, collected over two years. The fans who piled up during those years of waiting were there from day one this time.

4 a.m., RESCENE against RESCENE

Overnight, the chart showed another scene. On Melon’s TOP100 at 4 a.m. on November 4, “With” was No. 6 and “LOVE ATTACK” sat above it at No. 4 (Melon, checked directly). “Deja Vu” (No. 7) and the remake single “Pretty Girl” (No. 11) had slipped below the new song, but one two-year-old song was still above it. “NEON” had taken No. 1 back.

At that hour, ten RESCENE songs were on the TOP100: “LOVE ATTACK,” “With,” “Deja Vu,” “Pretty Girl,” “Inside Out,” “Finest Thing,” “Runaway,” “MEME,” “Pinball” and “Dragon.” On comeback day, the highest wall RESCENE had to climb wasn’t another group. It was RESCENE’s own hit.

A heartbeat and the scent of musk

PULSE means heartbeat. RESCENE picks a scent for each album, and this time it’s musk. Minami said, “We put in our sincere wish that, like a scent that softly seeps in, it stays between us for a long time” (Sports Kyunghyang, November 3).

The singer runs after a voice calling from far away and finally stands face to face with that person, and at that moment the quiet song bursts open all at once in the chorus. Zena said, “With ‘With,’ we wanted to show the teamwork of the five of us” (Sports Kyunghyang). Track 3, “Inside Out,” was composed by EJAE, known for her music for the Netflix animated film “KPop Demon Hunters” (MHN).

At the showcase, leader Woni laughed that “the word ‘popular’ still feels strangely embarrassing” (Sports Kyunghyang). Asked what they want to be called, all five said “RESCENE, the group you can trust to listen to.” Under the news stories, fans wrote, “Our kids finally did it, congratulations, now let’s cover the world in RESCENE’s scent” (31 likes, Dong-A Ilbo comments) and “This is the start of the nation’s girl group” (17 likes, Yonhap comments).

This Saturday, November 7, RESCENE takes the stage at the 2026 Korea Grand Music Awards (KGMA) at Seoul’s Gocheok Sky Dome, and Woni co-hosts the first day with actor Nam Ji-hyun (MHN). The five who held on for two years to reach No. 1 walk into a dome this time with a song that went to No. 1 on day one. I’m waiting for the moment the first line of “With” rings out on that stage.
