After Netflix’s Global No. 1, Suzy Becomes a Secret in 1935 Seoul

October 2025: The genie and Ga-young

Genie, Make a Wish, released on Netflix on Oct. 3, 2025, reached No. 1 on Netflix’s global non-English TV chart in its second week (Chosun Ilbo, Oct. 15, 2025). In this romantic fantasy by Kim Eun-sook, the writer of Guardian: The Lonely and Great God and The Glory, Suzy played Ki Ga-young, a woman who feels no emotion, tangled up with a lamp genie played by Kim Woo-bin. It was their first project together in nine years, since Uncontrollably Fond. The role won her best actress (OTT) at the Korea First Brand Awards in January 2026 (Wikipedia).

A story from off camera spread too. The mother of child actor Kim Yoon-seul, who played young Ga-young, wrote on social media: “In the desert, when Yoon-seul was struggling, Suzy lent her own trailer so she could rest on the bed” (Sports Seoul, Oct. 11, 2025). Reading that, I fell for Suzy all over again. This kind, even off camera.

2024: Wonderland with Park Bo-gum

A year earlier there had been Park Bo-gum. In director Kim Tae-yong’s Wonderland, released in June 2024, Suzy played Jeong-in, who brings her comatose boyfriend back to life in a simulated world (Wikipedia). Tang Wei, Jung Yu-mi and Choi Woo-shik co-starred. In an interview Suzy said the two of them got along so well that “the staff would say, ‘Suzy and Bo-gum really have fun together'” (Sports Kyunghyang, June 6, 2024).

Just before the release the pair appeared together on KBS’s music show The Seasons with host Zico, singing “Holiday” and “Somethin’ Stupid.” The same night Park played piano while Suzy sang “Satellite.”

On May 8, 2026, Suzy hosted the Baeksang Arts Awards with Shin Dong-yup and Park Bo-gum for the eighth time (Newsen, Apr. 2, 2026).

2025–2026: Suzy the singer

The singer never stopped. On Feb. 17, 2025, she released “Come Back,” her first single in two years, and in March she sang the Korean version of “Waiting on a Wish” for Disney’s live-action Snow White. In October she released “A Day” for the soundtrack of the dating show EXchange 4 (Wikipedia).

2026: Three projects waiting

Seven O’Clock Breakfast Club for the Brokenhearted. Director Lim Sun-ae’s film, based on Baek Young-ok’s novel, casts Suzy as flight attendant Sa-gang and Lee Jin-wook as consultant Ji-hoon. It had its world premiere in the competition section of the 30th Busan International Film Festival in 2025 and is set to open in Korean theaters in December 2026 (Insight, Sept. 8, 2026).

Portraits of Delusion. This Disney+ series is directed by Han Jae-rim (The Face Reader, The 8 Show). In 1935 Seoul, then called Gyeongseong, Suzy plays Song Jeong-hwa, the reclusive owner of the Nammun Hotel who lives wrapped in rumors; Kim Seon-ho plays Yoon Yi-ho, the painter hired to paint her portrait. It is their first project together in five years, since Start-Up, and is due out in 2026 (Xportsnews, May 23, 2025).

The Men of the Harem (literal translation of the Korean title). In October 2026 actor Shin Seung-ho said on SBS’s Whenever Possible that he was flying to Morocco to shoot this drama with Suzy and Dex (bnt News, Oct. 20, 2026).

Fall 2026: Suzy on Instagram

Her partnership with Guess, now ten years old, carried into the 2026 winter campaign “FEEL YOUR WAY” (Apparel News). In early October her Instagram (@skuukzky) was all Europe. Under a photo of a wine glass on a Florence night she wrote, “It was a little cold, but it’s okay 🍷 photo by SOOP-bly ❤️” (TenAsia, Oct. 3, 2026). She visited a Tuscan leather workshop with Celine (Elle Korea). In Paris she captioned an outdoor café shot, “Iced Americano is delicious, a cool daytime wine is delicious too” (TenAsia, Oct. 6), and she sat front row at Celine’s Spring/Summer 2027 show in a black double-breasted jacket (TenAsia, Oct. 7).

A hotel owner in 1935 Seoul, a heartbroken flight attendant, a film set in Morocco. None of 32-year-old Suzy’s next faces has been seen yet. As a fan, I can’t wait to meet each of them, one by one.
